Just for today, do not worry. Just
for today, do not anger. Honor your parents, teachers, and elders. Earn your living honestly. Show gratitude to everything.
Dr. Mikao Usui
What Is Reiki?
Reiki is the Japanese word meaning "universal life force energy" and
"Rei" also means universal, and "Ki" being a vital life force energy. Another interpretation is the words Rei meaning
"spirit", or the "essence", or "soul", and on a deeper level, "divine intelligence." Ki means "vital life force energy" or
"breath." This is an energy that can nurture and heal body, mind, heart, and spirit. It is a technique for stress release
and relaxation that allows anyone to be able to tap into an infinite supply of life force energy to improve one's health,
and enhance the quality of life. Reiki is a vast source of healing for one's inner needs. Reiki is a means to achieve
spiritual growth. Reiki has its own intelligence and knows exactly where it is needed. Reiki does not use manipulation of
the body in any way. It is not a form of physical massage.
Dr. Mikao Usui is known as the "Sensei" of the Japanese art of hands-on
Reiki healing. He is the originator of Reiki. He was born on August 15,1865 in the village of Taniaimura in the
Yamagata district of Gifu perfecture Kyoto. As a child he studied in a Tendai Buddhist monastery school
entering at a very early age. He was also a student of several different martial arts disciplines. He enjoyed
reading, and had a vast knowledge of medicine, psychology, fortune telling and theology of religions around
the world. He eventually married, his wife's name was Sadako, and they had one son and daughter born in 1907.
Usui traveled
throughout the western countries and China and later went on to study western ways. During his life Miako Usui had many
different professions: public servant, office worker, industrialist, reporter, missionary and the list goes on.
He found that the healing techniques contained in his spiritual system worked well on various ailments and afflictions.
In 1922 he opened a school and clinic in Harajukuin Tokyo. He possessed excellent skills as a healer and teacher and
his fame spread quickly throughout Japan.
He taught
people how to heal themselves which is the central theory of Reiki teaching today. His teachings were divided into 6
levels, Shoden (4 levels), Okuden (2 levels) Nad Shinpi-den. He was said to have taught his system of healing to over
2000 people. Healing was given to the people then they were taught how to heal themselves. Dr. Mikao Usui died
on March 9, 1926, at 62 years of age. He was buried in the Saihoji Temple in Suginami-Ku Tokyo.
The
Reiki Symbol is made up of Japanese characters symbolizing the word ‘Reiki’ is usually translated in the West
as meaning 'Universal Life Energy'. However, the characters can be translated as meaning ‘soul energy’, or ‘aura’
or ‘mysterious spirit’, or even 'spiritually guided life force energy'. When the name of the system was chosen,
they weren't thinking of a cold clinical energy that you can move around the body by inserting needles into a person: they
were thinking of an energy that has a definite connection or resonance with a person's soul or spiritual aspect. Interestingly,
the latest interpretation of the word 'Reiki' is that it can mean a system that was arrived at through a moment of enlightenment.
Reiki has spanned many decades of fulfillment in the art of healing and spirituality.
Reiki Consultation
Reiki is not a belief system. It is not necessary to belong to any religion
or hold any particular religious beliefs to benefit from Reiki , everyone can benefit from Reiki.
A Reiki practioner
is a channel for Reiki. Your own body will decide how much to take, where to use it and how to use it. Your body will
do the healing itself using the Reiki energy.
Reiki heals the mind, body and spirit. The energy once in your body will
be there for several days and the healing will continue. You may find that you feel tired after the treatment and maybe naturally
detox during the next few days. This is normal. Do drink plenty of water to support this natural occurrence. Some people
do not experience these symptoms but feel energised, everyone is different.
Since it is primarily your own body doing
the healing, Reiki will affect each person differently.
The method of receiving a Reiki treatment from a practitioner
is a very simple process. The recipient simply lies on a couch and relaxes. If they are unable to lie down the treatment can
be given in a sitting position, the main thing is for the recipient to be as comfortable as possible. There is no need to
remove any clothing as Reiki will pass through anything, even plaster casts. The practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively
in a sequence of positions which cover the whole body. The whole person is treated rather than specific symptoms. A
full treatment usually takes about 1 hour with each position held for several minutes.
Some people experience
relief from deep seated emotional problems, together your body and the Reiki will deal with this, you
may find rest helps. You may also find that you have a mild flair up of some long standing health problem. This will not last
and once dealt with by the Reiki and your body together it will disappear. This is all part of the healing process.
If
you are unwell or have a particular physical problem it is always best to have a course of Reiki treatments. Whilst
one session alone can be beneficial, four - seven sessions as close together as possible are ideal.
You
don't need to have any problems at all to benefit from a Reiki treatment. Whatever your health, emotional or physical
state, Reiki will leave you feeling balanced and relaxed and will benefit your whole system.
